How Chip & Whitney First Met
In August 2012, Chip started his job as a Sr. Scientist at Toyota in Ann Arbor, MI. Word traveled quickly through Toyota and soon Whitney's mother, Susan, caught wind of a new team member with in her department. It was not long before she realized what a great catch Chip would be for her daughter and divised a plan to get them to meet. The event she planned? Chip's 30th birthday party. Everyone was invited, including Whitney. Whitney and Chip hit it off from the start and enjoyed talking with each other all night. Over the next few months, Whitney and Chip started to hang-out more and more. Eventually, on June 20, 2013, Chip asked Whitney to be his girlfriend/"to go steady." Whitney was so happy, said "yes!" The Engagement
Ferniehirst Castle where Chip proposed to Whitney. |
The weather was unusually beautiful for Scotland that week (85F and sunny). They started in Edinburgh then went to Aberdeen and Inverness. The very last day of the trip, they left Inverness and visited Stirling Castle (so they could show pictures to Whitney's brother, Sterling). From Stirling Castle, they headed to Jedburgh - which is an hour south of Edinburgh - to the site of Ferniehirst Castle. Ferniehirst Castle was built by the Kerr Clan, who were genetically left handed. They built the Castle and its' staircases so that they could defend it left-handed - which was a huge advantage in the age of when most people were taught to fight with their right-hand.
As Whitney is left-handed, she had wanted to see the castle for years! When Chip and Whitney finally arrived at the castle that day, they met Bob Lawson, the "magical" curator. He took them on a tour of the castle, divulging the history of the Castle and the Kerr Clan.
After the tour, Chip and Whitney walked around the grounds. Behind the castle, in the garden, is where Chip began his proposal. The sky was clear blue, the sent of English lavender filled the air and the little calves moo'ed with content as they watched. It was then that Chip took out the ring and placed it on Whitney's left hand with his left hand, in the garden of the left-handed castle. She was extatic! She had been waiting all her life for a man as wonderful as Chip to spend her life with. And do you know what happened next?? ...She said "YES!!!"
They are now excited to share this special time in their lives with you and hope to see you in the months to come!
